Hong Kong House Restaurant in Oshawa

Apparently if you order 1 main dish on its own, it comes with a free steamed rice. If you order 2 main dishes, the food doesn't come with free rice anymore?!? Someone PLEASE explain the logic of this menu to me.

The food was delicious, especially for the cheap price. However, the service was absolutely dreadful, making me feel unwelcome and having to hear the server and his kitchen staff screaming at each other throughout my meal. Definitely not coming back.

I ordered a S&S Chicken Ball dinner requesting sauce on the side. They said that they charge for the extra container. I said, prepare it without the sauce and then brought my own small container thinking that they would appreciate my effort to save them the unnecessary extra sauce. To my surprise, at pickup they refused me a small spoonful of sauce unless I paid extra (for that would ordinarily already be on the meal). Since they have accommodated me in the past, this smacks of a new level of cheapness. How small minded! I also can confirm what others have posted regarding the run-down appearance and generally unfriendly demeanor of almost all the staff I have dealt with over the last 5 years but forgave this for the quality of the food but now I am done with them.

Restaurant refused to provide any cutlery with my take out order, advising they "don't do that". Had to use my fingers like I was on Survivor. I'm a big hot and sour soup fan but theirs was the worst thing I've ever tasted. Very bad first experience.

Hong Kong House is your classic great Chinese restaurant . Wide ranging menu at prices, service is quite fast and the food us delicious. Bumped into Sting of all people, who was there to order the golden tantric chicken.

I was surprised how rude and inconsiderate the man was that took my money.The food was just ok not anything special. But hey you won't see me back as I expect courteous considerate service. I have always seen this place but never tried it for some reason, yet today I did! The food is delicious, the service is friendly and it is a well-balanced and nutritious meal. Will come more often from now on. :)

Just got take out from here and loved it it was fast and really good. Been eating here for 10+, years and will continue to.

Tried this place for takeout lunch for the first time. Parking lot was packed very early so I thought that was a good sign. I got the last parking spot and went inside only to find very few customers in there. The restaurant must rent out parking spots (most of them) given their proximity to downtown Oshawa. A lady who came in after me said she had to double park. Anyway I ordered a lunch special and it tasted just fine. Restaurant was a little messy and in need of a refresh. Overall I prefer the other such restaurants nearby.

Have been going here for over twenty years and was just hung up on because I asked for the sweet and sour sauce that we paid extra for that was forgotten! After years of loyalty and referring customers to your restaurant when dozens of clients who are new to the city ask me where to go for good Chinese food? I personally will never order from you again I'm that angry. And when people ask me where to go to eat I'll recommend the Mayflower! The days of being the only game in town are over. Even if the food is good the absolute lack of customer service and no attention to detail will eventually put off even the most loyal customers. Happy new year indeed.

WOW people told me how good this place was...Wrong, first time i went there was 1/2 ago... Order Beef Fried Rice, got alot of brown rice, 6 very small pieces of beef... Dont waste your money if your a first time customer, you get ripped off. Disappointed , they should be ashamed...Not even a half a star Restaurant.

they have no idea what beef lo mein is, and my order took over an hour to be delivered. Unacceptable.

We've been ordering from the Hong Kong House for 14 years and just bought our lat meal from them. Our vegetable fried rice had maybe a dozen pieces of bean sprouts and half a small mushroom. The vegetable noodles had NOTHING, and I mean no vegetables in it at all. The vegetable Chop Suey, well it's made from bean sprouts and you might find a couple of small pieces of celery an carrot. Aside from the shrimp I'd say I could have made the rest of the meal for under $2.00. Look for other options because the declining quality is at an all time low.

So the place doesn't look so pretty.The decore definitely needs a make over.The man who takes your order comes across very abrupt ok so he isn't friendly .What really matters is the quality of the foodThe food is excellent for the price I have never been dissapointed.The portions are great. You get a lot for the price.

Our go-to place for chinese food. Reasonable prices, always get the order right and the food is cooked perfectly, every time without fail. Highly recommended

I ordered the beef chow mien and the general tso chicken. What I received was not chow mein but in fact chop suey(basically just bean sprouts). I called to get a replacement offering to drive back to exchange the food for what I ordered. The lady on the phone tried to tell me that no it was I that was wrong and that they consider chop suey and chow mein to be the same thing, definitely false. She said there was nothing she could do for me. I asked to speak to the manager and he said the same thing but this time offering to sell me what I ordered in the first place. On top of that the General tso chicken was too sweet and had too much sauce on them.I am not one to complain about restaurants. This is the first review I’ve ever made. However in this case the Abysmal customer service and poor food quality was too much to ignore. They will never see my business again. I urge you to look elsewhere for Chinese food.

The restaurant may not look pretty but the food is really good, easily the best in Oshawa. Service is always fast and friendly.

Good place for take out or delivery but staying in is not advised as it is not the cleanest place in town. The washrooms look like they are never cleaned.

The food is decent, the service is overall fast, and the prices are fair. Definitely worth a shot. Pretty good for an average Chinese restaurant.

It has been hard to find a good Chinese food restaurant in the area and this one has made the cut. I have to give it a 5 to bring the average up!The food was fantastic, no filler. The ingredients was fresh and the cost proportion ratio was good. You may not want to plan on eating in as the restaurant is in rough shape. But like I said the food is awesome!

this is a very busy DQ and to manage all the employees and customers requires a special manager. Tim has been here for the many years we have stopped for hot dogs and malts and never had a problem. We honestly look for Tim's car in the parking lot so we can say hi.

Just ordered some chinese for dinner. Gone before I had the chance to taste it all. The ingredients and the flavores were fresh and maild. Thank you Hong Kong House, you made my day. Nov. 19, 2019.

As I am writing this I am currently at a party with over 30 people from mainland China. I read other reviews about Hong Kong house not being authentic Chinese by so called foodies. However, the food we picked up did not last more than 3 minutes before the real Chinese people cleaned out the dish and attest that Peter offers a true taste of China. My wife who was born and raised in Hong Kong will only order food that tastes like home and in her words, anyone saying that HKHR does not offer real Chinese food is being lazy and ordering the dinners for #. We will make this restaurant a mainstay of our week. We'll done good sir.

If i could give a review and give no stars i would my husband and i got married in 2017 at the church right accross we ordered 700$ worth of food and they charged us 70$ to deliver next door we let it go because the food is good. tonight my husband and i ordered and it was absolutly horrible my kids wouldnt even eat it so we called to see if they cpuld remake our 50$ order and the guy tells us that he dosnt care we will have to bring it back even know we paid for delivery. It was horrible i am so disgusted in the food and how they would act. So now my husband has to walk our food all the way there because these people want to be so ignorant. WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THERE AGAIN.!!!!!!

Worst Chinese food I've ever had.

Great food, quick service and good portions for take out

Food was decent. Would NEVER order from here again. I ordered chicken Chow Mein and got chicken chop suey. When I called to let them know, the man was incredibly rude and argued with me. He tried telling me that chow mein was bean sprouts. That's absolutely wrong! Then to top things off, he hung up on me.

Amazing food, this restaurant looks like a "little hole in the wall" kind of place, and the appearance does not do it justice, this is hands down the best Chinese food I have ever had. I drive past quite a few other places, and go way out of my way to order from here. It's the best. The same guy working the front has been there since I was a kid, may not seem overly friendly, but don't be fooled, he's a great guy, and runs a fantastic kitchen. THE BEST TAKE OUT I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!

Great food with eye catching presentation. I like this place very much because of the quality service they provide to their customer. The atmosphere was cool . The staff was very friendly and take care of the customer's need very well. Good place to go for food.

Another huge price increase.! My dilemma lies in the fact that the food is good but it's getting to the point where I can't afford it. Peter just raised all his prices again and my favorite Egg Foo Yong has increased a whopping 27% from $7.50 to $9.50. All his prices are up an average of 25%. The greed factor has set in. It's at the point now where it's cheaper to take the family to the Keg or fine dining establishment than it is to order in from Hong King House. It's a pity because I really liked the food but now won't patronize it out of principle.

The daily special was excellent! I had the lemon chicken it was so tasty that I ordered some to go. Generous portions.
